Study stay authorization application
What it is: Non-EU students planning to study, train, do an internship, or participate in a student mobility programme in Spain for more than 90 days need a study stay authorization.
How you apply: You apply through a Spanish consulate before arriving, with an acceptance letter from your institution, proof of funds, private health insurance, a clean criminal record, and a medical certificate. Once in Spain you collect a student TIE.
What it allows: Work rights are limited but some study authorizations allow part-time work — check the specific terms of your authorization. Family members may be able to join under linked authorization in some cases.
Practical note: Student status gives access to public healthcare in some regions through the health card, but check your autonomous community's rules.

Identity and civil records
- Valid passport or EU national ID.
- Birth, marriage, or partnership records where relevant.
- Legalization or Hague apostille for many foreign public documents.
- Sworn Spanish translations when documents are not accepted as-is.

- Address in Spain and, when requested, padrón certificate.
- Immigration appointment confirmation.
- Correct EX form for your procedure.
- Paid tasa receipt, often Modelo 790 with the matching code.
